A Commerce Ministry spokesperson also stated that the nation could implement its own undisclosed “retaliatory steps” if the American leader follows through on his pledge, emphasizing that the country was “not afraid” of a looming commercial battle.

Last Friday, Donald Trump responded at Beijing’s move to strengthen its rules for foreign shipments of rare earths, charging China of “adopting a confrontational stance” and attempting to hold the global community “captive”.

Additionally, he vowed to pull out of a arranged talks with Beijing’s head of state President Xi, which was arranged for a summit in the Republic of Korea before the month ends.

The former president’s remarks on last Friday unsettled financial markets, with the S&P 500 share index falling by nearly three percent, marking its largest decline since earlier this year.

“Using” trade levy ultimatums is not the correct approach to engage with Beijing,” their representative said.
